Multi-Day Island Hopping Adventure
This four-day expedition takes you far beyond the tourist trail and deep into the Zanzibar Archipelago—a scattering of coral islands, sandbars, and reef systems stretching across some of the most beautiful water in the Indian Ocean. Each day brings a completely different island landscape, from the forested shores of Chapwani to the raw, uninhabited sandbanks of Menai Bay and the wild green hills of Pemba. Your small group travels by traditional dhow and speedboat with an experienced expedition leader who knows these waters intimately. Accommodation ranges from a comfortable beachfront lodge to a simple banda pitched on a sandbank under a blanket of stars. Meals are a highlight in themselves—your crew catches and grills the freshest seafood imaginable, served with Swahili staples and tropical fruit. This is Zanzibar at its most adventurous and authentic, designed for travellers who want more than a beach holiday.

Journey
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Stone Town to Changuu & Chapwani Islands
Meet your expedition leader at the Stone Town waterfront after breakfast. Board a traditional dhow and sail to Changuu (Prison Island) where giant Aldabra tortoises roam freely—some over 100 years old. After a guided walk and snorkel stop, continue to the forested Chapwani Island for a beachfront lunch of grilled octopus and coconut rice. Spend the afternoon snorkelling the island’s house reef before settling into your seaside lodge for sundowners and a Swahili dinner under the stars.
Day 2 – Sandbank Camp & Bioluminescence
A speedboat takes you south to the Menai Bay Conservation Area. Stop at a disappearing sandbank where the crew sets up a private beach camp with shaded bandas. Spend the morning swimming, snorkelling, and exploring tidal pools. After a lavish seafood barbecue lunch, kayak through the nearby mangrove channels spotting herons and kingfishers. As night falls, wade into the shallows to witness bioluminescent plankton—every movement of your hand creates trails of blue-green light. Sleep in your beachside banda with the sound of gentle waves.
Day 3 – Pemba Island & Misali Reef
An early morning speedboat crossing brings you to Pemba, Zanzibar’s wilder, less-visited sister island. Head straight to Misali Island, a marine sanctuary with some of the best coral in East Africa. Snorkel over walls of staghorn coral, giant clams, and schools of barracuda. After lunch on Misali’s pristine beach, visit a local Pemba village to meet clove farmers and learn about the island’s unique voodoo traditions. Overnight at a hillside lodge overlooking the Pemba Channel.
Day 4 – Pemba Mangroves & Return
Start the final morning with a dawn kayak through Pemba’s mangrove forests, one of the most biodiverse coastal ecosystems in the region. Spot mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and wading birds in the golden morning light. Return to the lodge for breakfast and a final swim before transferring back to Zanzibar by speedboat. Arrive in Stone Town by early afternoon with time to explore Forodhani Night Market on your own.
