All Zanzibar – Stone Town, East Coast, Nungwi, & Jozani·5 days / 4 nights·From €780

Zanzibar is one of the most photogenic places on Earth—a collision of turquoise water, ancient architecture, vivid street life, and equatorial light that shifts from honey-gold to deep indigo in the space of an hour. This five-day expedition is designed for photographers of all levels who want to move beyond snapshots and come home with a portfolio of images that tell the island’s story. Led by a professional photographer whose work has appeared in international travel publications, the expedition balances structured shooting sessions with creative freedom. You will learn to read the light in Stone Town’s labyrinthine alleys, compose seascapes on the east coast’s infinite tidal flats, and capture candid portraits in busy markets. Daily editing and critique sessions ensure you refine your technique throughout the trip. Whether you shoot on a smartphone or a full-frame mirrorless system, the goal is the same: to see Zanzibar more deeply through the lens.

Journey

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Stone Town: Light, Shadow & Architecture

Check into your boutique hotel in Stone Town and meet your photography guide for a welcome briefing. Head out in the late afternoon to capture the warm golden light falling across the town’s iconic carved wooden doors, crumbling balconies, and narrow alleyways. Learn techniques for shooting in tight spaces with mixed light. As the sun sets, position yourself on the waterfront for the classic silhouette shot of dhows against the burning sky. Evening editing session reviewing the day’s captures over dinner.

Day 2 – Darajani Market & Spice Farms

Rise before dawn to capture Darajani Market as it comes alive—fishermen unloading the night’s catch, vendors arranging pyramids of tropical fruit, and the steam rising from street-food stalls. This is a masterclass in street photography, candid portraits, and working with available light. After breakfast, drive to a spice plantation for macro and detail photography of spices, tropical flowers, and textures. Afternoon editing workshop focusing on colour grading and composition.

Day 3 – East Coast: Seascapes & Seaweed Farmers

Transfer to the east coast for dramatically different scenery. Shoot the famous turquoise tidal flats of Paje at sunrise—a vast, minimalist seascape that changes by the minute. Mid-morning, photograph the women seaweed farmers of Jambiani wading through shallow lagoons, a scene of extraordinary colour and human story. Afternoon free for independent shooting along the coast or an optional kitesurfing action-photography session. Evening critique and portfolio building.

Day 4 – Jozani Forest & Nungwi Dhow Yard

Morning in Jozani Forest shooting wildlife in challenging forest light. Learn techniques for photographing fast-moving primates, dappled light, and dense vegetation. The red colobus monkeys are surprisingly cooperative subjects. After lunch, drive to Nungwi to photograph the traditional dhow-building yards where craftsmen still build boats by hand using centuries-old methods. Catch the spectacular Nungwi sunset from the lighthouse headland. Final group dinner and image-of-the-trip competition.

Day 5 – Blue Hour & Departure

Optional pre-dawn shoot for blue-hour images of Stone Town’s rooftops and the harbour. After breakfast, a final portfolio review session where your guide provides feedback and tips for post-processing back home. Transfer to the airport or your next destination by midday.
